LAKE GOGEBIC, Mich. – William "Bill" Richards, 75, of Lake Gogebic, died Saturday morning, Dec. 31, 2011, at his home, surrounded by loved ones.
He was born on Sept. 10, 1936, in Ironwood, the son of Arnold and Mary (Dunnigan) Richards. Bill attended St. Ambrose High School.
He proudly served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, and was honorably discharged on Sept. 15, 1956.
On Jan. 12, 1957, Bill was united in marriage to Anna Mae Miskovich at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wakefield, by the late Rev. Charles Daniel.
He had a lifelong history in mining.
Bill enjoyed hunting, fishing and gardening. He was a longtime member of the Lake Gogebic Fire Department.
Bill is survived by his loving wife, Anna Mae; a brother, Tom (Juanita), Port Saint Lucie, Fla.; two sisters, Gerry (Charles) Gossen, Lake Gogebic, and Fay (Ronald) Polvi, Fairhope, Ala.; his sister-in-law, Wiladine Richards, Flint; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, William S., on March 12, 2001; and two brothers, Lloyd and Loran.
A celebration of Bill's life will be held at 12 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012, at the Gogebic Lodge.
