IRONWOOD, Mich. – William "Bill" Newman, 86, of Ironwood, passed away on Saturday, April 15, 2023.

Bill was born on May 17, 1936, in Thomaston, a son of Burl and Ailie (Sarkkinen) Newman. He attended Wakefield schools.

On Aug. 6, 1960, Bill was united in marriage to Carole Cox in Wakefield.

He started his working career at Lake Superior District Power Company and retired from Northern States Power.

Bill enjoyed time at the hunting camp, vegetable gardening, telling his daily joke and was very proud of his camp coffee.

Bill is survived by his wife, Carole; a son, Timothy (Annette), Ironwood; a daughter, Joyann (Stacey) Chilson, Stratford, Wisconsin; a granddaughter, Abigail Newman, Appleton, Wisconsin; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by his parents; two brothers, Clyde and Ralph; and three sisters, Violet, in infancy, Dorothy Grayson and Eileen Sell.

At Bill's request, no services will be held.
