William 'Wyoming' Anonich
WAUSAU, Wis. – William "Wyoming" Anonich, 80, of Wakefield, Mich., passed away Thursday, July 7, 2011, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born on March 25, 1931, in Montreal, the son of Matthew and Mary (Smee) Anonich. Bill graduated from Hurley High School in 1949.
He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Following his honorable discharge from the military, he pursued his teaching degree. Bill was employed by and retired from Marenisco Schools at the age of 50.
On April 14, 1957, he married Shirley A. Witte in Superior.
Bill was well known for his cooking, enjoyed fishing and going to hunting camp. He was a member and past commander of the Wakefield American Legion Post 11 and a past member of the Gogebic County Board of Commissioners.
Bill is survived by a son, Dave, Menominee, Mich.; a daughter, Pamela Anonich, Mercer; two granddaughters, Lindsay (Brian) Swank, Lansdale, Pa., and Kelsey Anonich, Menominee; his special companion, Marlene Delich, Wakefield; a brother, James (Helen), Rice Lake; a sister, Helen Mae Anonich, Montreal; his sister-in-law, Florence Anonich, Mercer; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Shirley, on Nov. 6, 1994; his daughter-in-law, Gerilynn Anonich, on June 14, 2011; and siblings, Isabelle, Bernice, Sophie, George and Matthew.
Visitation will be Monday, July 11, from 10:30 a.m. to noon, with an honor guard beginning at 11:15 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wakefield, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon, with the Rev. Joy J. Adimakkeel officiating.
Burial will take place in the Lakeside Cemetery with military honors under the auspices of American Legion Post 11 and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9084 Honor Guard.
A reception will be held at the American Legion in Wakefield following the services.
