IRONWOOD, Mich. – Sylvia M. Wanhaaho, 77, of Ironwood, formerly of Hurley, Wis., passed away Monday, June 18, 2012, in Ironwood.
Sylvia was born on March 21, 1935, in Nisula, the daughter of Lauri and Anna (Rautiola) Kiviranta. She graduated from Baraga High School in 1953.
On Aug. 8, 1953, Sylvia married Martin A. Wanhaaho in Laurium.
She was a faithful member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church in Ironwood.
Sylvia is survived by a son, Keith (Shirley), Elo; three daughters, Marlene (David) Thomas, Bessemer, Jeanne (Daryl) Lampela, Allouez, and Diane (Greg) Piispanen, Ironwood; four grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; a step-great-great-grandson; and numerous cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Martin, on Aug. 31, 2008; and a daughter, Marla Jean, in 1958.
Funeral services will be held Friday, June 22, at 11 a.m., at the Apostolic Lutheran Church, 326 W. Aurora St., Ironwood, with the Rev. Bruce Estola officiating.
The Wanhaaho family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service.
A reception will be held in the church fellowship hall following the service.
Interment will be in Alston Cemetery, Laird Township, Houghton County.
