HURLEY, Wis. – Shirley E. McRaniels, 86, of Hurley, passed away peacefully on Monday, Feb. 9, 2026, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau.

The former Shirley E. Stuhr was born on June 6, 1939, in Mercer, daughter of the late John Henry and Georgia Ann (Schwartz) Stuhr.

She was married to Joseph M. McRaniels on Nov. 15, 1957, in Bessemer. Joseph, who was an ordained Church of the Nazarene minister, preceded her in death on Nov. 9, 2009.

Shirley was a long-time licensed practical nurse.

Surviving are five children, Joseph John, Angela, Mark, Daniel and Nathan; numerous cherished grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a brother, Dennis (Lyn) Stuhr; and many dear nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Shirley was predeceased by four children, Peter, in infancy, Paul, Cindy and Dorothy; two sisters, Sally and Peggy; and three brothers, Daniel, Dallas and David.

A graveside service and interment will take place in the spring at Mercer Cemetery.
