Russell Roberts

BESSEMER, Mich. – Russell Roberts, 90, a resident of North Moore Road, Bessemer, died Tuesday, Dec. 6, 2011.

He was born on Oct. 3, 1921, in Grand Rapids, the son of Horace and Marjory (Ussett) Roberts.

Russ proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and was honorably discharged on Feb. 16, 1946.

On April 17, 1948, he married Connie Phillips in Grand Rapids.


Russ was employed by Coca-Cola Bottling Co. for 39 years, and retired in 1978.

He was an avid outdoorsman, and loved to hunt, fish and trap.

Russ is survived by two sons, Bill, Bessemer, and Ken, Crystal Falls; a daughter, Sandy; eight grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Connie, on Nov. 18, 1996; and a brother, Howard.

Visitation will be Saturday, Dec. 10, from 2:30 to 3 p.m., at Lakeside Memorial Chapel, 806 Putnam St., Wakefield, where a funeral service will follow at 3 p.m., with the Rev. Steven Hyvonen officiating.

Following the service, a flag presentation will be conducted.

Burial will be in Sunset Acres Cemetery.
