Russell Victor Nurmi, 51, a longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2010, at his home.
He was born on Feb. 18, 1959, in Waukegan, Ill., the son of Rueben Johannes and Patricia Lois (Makela) Nurmi.
Rusty graduated from Wakefield High School in 1977.
His hobbies included fishing, hunting, gardening and playing his guitar.
At one time, he was a sawyer for Superior Tree Service in Wakefield.
Rusty is survived by his mother, Patricia L. Pensala, Wakefield; a brother, Randall, Wakefield; two sisters, Susan Nurmi, Wakefield, and her daughter, Liisa, Ramsay, and Vickie (Hugh) Krueger, Jewett, Texas; his stepmother, Viola M. Nurmi, Marenisco; numerous stepbrothers, stepsisters, nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rueben, on April 6, 1991.
There will be a celebration of Rusty's life on Friday, Dec. 17, at the Wakefield American Legion Post 11, beginning at 1 p.m.
The family is being served by the Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc., Wakefield.
