Obituary

BESSEMER, Mich. - Rose "Rosie" Aspinwall, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 13, 2026, at Aspirus St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota. Daughter of Peter and Alma (Barbacovi) Pelissero, she was born on Jan. 7, 1937, in Bessemer. She lived to be 89 years young, and lived in Bessemer her entire life.

Rosie graduated from A.D. Johnston High School with the class of 1954. Upon graduating, she began work at Michigan Bell Telephone Company as an operator for nine years until the company closed the Ironwood office. On June 18, 1960, Rosie was united in marriage to Dennis D. Aspinwall at St. Sebastian Catholic Church. They celebrated 65 years of marriage this past summer and did everything together. She took several years off to stay at home and raise their three children. Rosie then was employed for many years at St. Sebastian School in the hot lunch program which included the Bessemer Public Schools. Later in life, she became a nanny to Amy and Tony Armichardy during their young school years and also was a caregiver to many others.

Rosie loved to bake and cook and was famous for her delicious, perfectly round chocolate chip cookies that the grandkids always wanted for school events. Her family enjoyed her cheese or meat ravioli and her pasties during all family get-togethers. No one left her house hungry after her noon "dinner" or 5 o'clock "supper."

Rosie and Denny loved to take the grandkids out fishing on their favorite lakes and have "picnics" in the boat. Her family was her greatest joy. She liked to walk the Belle Trail and Sunday Lake boardwalks. Rosie had more energy than anyone you'd ever met, making her quite the "feisty Italian." Relax was not in her vocabulary, but in the evening she loved to read and work crossword puzzles. Television never interested her unless it was to watch the Green Bay Packers, weather report or local news. She enjoyed her computer that her children bought her and her grandchildren taught her to use. Rosie could now email her friends and relatives, and send pictures which she thought were really great. She always told her children no microwave, computer or cell phone, but ended up with all three and loved them.

Not a day went by when Rosie put herself first. She was constantly worrying about and helping family, relatives, friends and even strangers she read about in the news. Rosie was one in a million. "I will always love you!" is her daughter, Judy's, special message.

Rosie is survived by her loving and devoted husband, Dennis; and children, Susan Mewbourn-Wohlleber (Dan), Judith R. Aspinwall and Dennis P. Aspinwall. She will be missed by grandchildren, Nick Mewbourn (Marissa), Stephanie Mewbourn (Terry), Joel Mewbourn (Sydney), Jordan Mewbourn (Anna), Max Wohlleber, Margaret Wohlleber, Dennis Ian Aspinwall and Andy Aspinwall (Kelsey); great-grandchildren, Paisley, Kylie, Hunter, Maclynn, Tristan and baby girl, to be born in June 2026; her brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Don Aspinwall and Ruthie Aspinwall; and many dear nephews and nieces.

Predeceased relatives include: her parents; her father-in-law and mother-in-law, George and Esther Aspinwall-Johnson; brothers, Arthur Stancher, John Pelissero and Bruno Pelissero; a sister, Mary Fiorelli; her brothers-in-law, Mario Fiorelli, George Aspinwall Jr., Howard Aspinwall and George Butson; her sisters-in-law, Marianne Stancher, Mary Lou Pelissero, Marilyn Butson, Ruth Aspinwall and Jean Aspinwall; her son-in-law, Jim Mewbourn; and her daughter-in-law, Deb Aspinwall.

Visitation will be on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 9:45 to 10:45 a.m., at St. Sebastian Catholic Church, 210 E. Iron St., in Bessemer. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Christian Flagstadt, celebrant and Rosie's nephew, Deacon Arthur Stancher Jr., assisting.
