Ronald L. Montie, 70, of Lake Gogebic, passed away peacefully Saturday, April 30, 2011, at his home, following a brief illness, with his family at his side.
He was born on Feb. 8, 1941, in Gillett, Wis., the son of Arnold and Elsie Montie.
Ron proudly served in the U.S. Navy for 22 years.
Following his honorable discharge, Ron owned and operated a resort on Lake Gogebic with his wife.
On Oct. 17, 1964, he was united in marriage with JoAnn Kruschke.
Ron attended All Saints Lutheran Church in Wakefield, loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and cutting wood.
He is survived by his beloved wife, JoAnn; a daughter, Tina, Ironwood; a son, Shawn (Ronnie Lynn), Lake Gogebic; four grandchildren, Matthew, Hailey, Chase and Kevin; a sister, Shirley (Robert) Haws, Conover, Wis.; two sisters-in-law, Flora (Lee) Bottenseck, Wisconsin Rapids, Wis., and Bev (friend Terry) Wranosky, Bennettsville, S.C.; five brothers-in-law, Pete (Lorraine) Kruschke, Gillett, Doug (Joyce) Kruschke, Newport News, Va., Wayne Kruschke and Dale Kruschke, both of Gillett, and Joe Elliott, Green Bay, Wis.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Arnie; and two sisters, Bev Rolfs and Lynn Elliott.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, May 5, from 10 to 11 a.m., at All Saints Lutheran Church, with the honor guard beginning at 10:15 a.m. A memorial service will follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Bill Jacobson officiating.
Following the service, military rites will be accorded by the Wakefield American Legion Post 11 and the Wakefield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9084.
A reception will be held in the church fellowship hall.
