SYDNEY, New South Wales, Australia – Ronald Lee Gehring, 46, of Sydney, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, of injuries sustained in a bicycling accident.
He was born on Sept. 1, 1966, in Norway, Mich., the son of Lee Edward Gehring and Pauline Leslie. Ron graduated from Niagara, Wis., High School in 1984.
He proudly served his country with the U.S. Air Force for more than 10 years.
On April 5, 1990, Ron was united in marriage to Debra Elaine Everett in Panama City, Fla.
He had lived previously in Chicago and Louisville, Ky., and had resided in Sydney for the past three years.
Ron was employed as a Remedy Developer, and was a member of the AUDAX cycling club in Australia.
Ron is survived by his beloved wife, Debra; two sons, Alexander Lee and Ashton Jared; his mother, Pauline; a sister, Michelle (Duane) Fink; two brothers, Tony Helmer and James II (Angie) Helmer; four brothers-in-law and a sister-in-law; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lee, in July 1966.
Visitation will be held Thursday, Jan. 31, from 6 to 8 p.m., with the honor guard beginning at 6:15 p.m., at Lakeside Memorial Chapel in Wakefield, Mich., where a vigil service will be prayed at 7:30 p.m.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Feb. 1, at 11 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wakefield, with the Rev. Ben Hasse, celebrant.
Following the Mass, military rites will take place at the church under the auspices of Wakefield American Legion Geroux Post 11 and Wakefield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9084 Honor Guard.
Lunch will be served in the parish hall at the church following the military honors.
Rite of Committal and burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield, in the spring.
