BESSEMER, Mich. - Robert P. "Meatball" Vestich, 73, of Bessemer, passed away on Monday, March 6, 2023, at Aspirus Ironwood Hospital after a battle with cancer with family by his side.

Robert was born on July 24, 1949, to Peter and Isabelle (Mascotti) Vestich in Duluth, Minnesota.

He graduated from A.D. Johnston High School in Bessemer, class of 1967. In 1970, Robert opened Uncle Sam's Place, which he went on to own and operate with his wife, Jean Ann, for more than 50 years. Robert also worked for many years at Indianhead Mountain Resort in Wakefield. There, he introduced his family to skiing.

In 1972, Robert met Jean Ann. They married in 1983, going on to have three children, Jill, Jay, and Jesi.

Anyone who knew Robert knew that he was the most loving father and husband a family could ask for. Robert was a driven man, determined to provide for his family and give them the life he felt they deserved. His family meant more to him than anything else. He was unendingly proud of Jill, Jay, Jesi and Jean Ann and always tried his best to support them.

Robert enjoyed fishing and deer hunting and could usually be found spending time at his hunting camp. He also treasured the times spent at Packer and Brewers games with friends. He loved being around people and making them smile and laugh.

Robert was predeceased by his parents; and a sister, Patricia.

Robert is survived by his loving wife, Jean Ann, Bessemer; a daughter, Jill (Jimmy) Kahila, Bessemer; a son, Jay (Amber) Vestich, Edwards, Colorado; and a daughter, Jesi (Dylan) McLellan, DeForest, Wisconsin.

Cremation has taken place. A celebration of Robert's life will be held on Saturday, March 11, from 2-6 p.m. at Uncle Sam's in Bessemer.
