Robert 'Bob'
Lynn
May 6, 1935 – April 4, 2025
IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, Mich. - Robert "Bob" Lynn, 89, a longtime resident of Ironwood Township, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, April 4, 2025.
Bob was born on May 6, 1935, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the only child of Harold and Irene (DeGowin) Lynn. He graduated from Traverse City Central High School in Traverse City, Michigan, and then from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor with a B.A. in political science and economics.
Bob worked as a field representative for the Social Security Administration for 31 years. Following, he spent 27 years as a benefit specialist for the Aging Unit of Iron County in Hurley, Wisconsin.
He served the local community on over a dozen boards, councils and commissions, including as a proud member of the Ironwood Township Volunteer Fire Department, the Ironwood Board of Education, the Gogebic County Community Mental Health Board, Ironwood Kiwanis Club, Bessemer Township Business and Professional Men's Club and the Sharon Lutheran Church Council.
On March 20, 1965, Bob married the love of his life, Clara Mae Brown, at Sharon Lutheran Church in Bessemer and a few years later daughters, Cheryl and Linnea joined the family.
Bob and Clara Mae spent a lot of time in the outdoors like hiking in the Porcupine Mountains, traveling and camping with the family in their truck camper, and canoeing. Bob was an avid biker for years and then switched to walking all over the local area. He enjoyed working in the yard and gardening. Bob was a sports fan for the University of Michigan ("Go Blue!"), the Detroit Tigers and the Detroit Lions. But most important of all he loved spending time with his grandson, Jason.
Bob is survived by his two daughters, Cheryl Lynn, Marshfield, Wisconsin, and Linnea (Floyd) Ramme, Ironwood; and a grandson, Jason Ramme.
He was predeceased by his parents; and his wife, Clara Mae.
Quoting his hospice nurse, Paula, "He's helped thousands of people through his work over the years." It brought him so much joy to make such a difference in so many lives.
The family would like to thank Regional Hospice Services for their great kindness and expert care for Bob and his family during this difficult time.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 15, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Sharon Lutheran Church, 100 E. Sellar St., in Bessemer, with the Rev. Brittany Barkus officiating.
There will be a luncheon in the Kastman Hall at the church following the service.
A committal service and interment will take place later this spring at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer.
Memorials can be made in Bob's name to Regional Hospice, 204 Harrison St., Suite 5, Ironwood, MI 49938.
