'Rich' Giackino
August 24, 1937 – December 8, 2018
WAKEFIELD, Mich. – Richard L. "Rich" Giackino, 81, of Wakefield, passed away Saturday morning, Dec. 8, 2018.
Rich was born on Aug. 24, 1937, in Ironwood, a son of Louis and Fanny W. (Kahila) Giackino. He attended Ramsay School and A.D. Johnston High School and graduated in 1955.
On Jan. 18, 1958, Rich was united in marriage to the love of his life, Jeanne E. Jarvela in Ramsay.
Since he was an avid outdoorsman and deer hunter, Rich absolutely loved going to camp. His other hobbies included fishing, trapping and camping. He taught his wife and family how to trap and was a member of the National Trappers Association.
Two of Rich and Jeanne's favorite pastimes were country dancing and socializing at the local restaurants.
He worked at local iron ore and copper mines and then was an independent logging contractor until his retirement. He was a shuttle bus driver for Indianhead Mountain Ski Resort until his illness.
Rich is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne; four sons, Rick (Cindy) and Rob (Gail), both of Wakefield, Randy (Christie), Bogue Chitto, Miss., and Rod (Tammy), Ironwood; five cherished grandchildren; 11dear great-grandchildren; two brothers, Dennis (Marilyn), Weston, Wis., and Lou (Kelly), Ironwood; a sister, Jean (Jack) Rigoni, Ironwood; three brothers-in-law, Rodney (Kate) Jarvela, Nicholas (Juleanne) Jarvela and Jerrold (Donna) Jarvela; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Ronald Louis, on March 25, 1969; and a grandson, Dixon Lee, on June 20, 2009.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Dec. 15, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at All Saints Lutheran Church, 1202 Putnam St., in Wakefield, with the Rev. Bill Jacobson officiating.
Interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield, in the spring.
Luncheon will be served at the church fellowship hall following the service.
