WAKEFIELD, Mich. – Rex Robert Smith, 41, of Wakefield, passed away Thursday afternoon, July 12, 2018, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Rex was born on May 8, 1977, in Pontiac, the son of Marjorie Ann Smith and Rex Junior Chambers.
He was an avid sports fan. His hobbies included playing football and soccer. In earlier years, he was a competitive wrestler.
Rex was a true friend to everyone he met. He was always willing to listen, offer assistance to anyone, and expected nothing in return.
He was a devoted and compassionate son. Before moving to Wakefield, he would call or write his mother three times a week. Most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.
He had fun playing card games, going to the casino, cooking delicious meals and taking his dog, Patches, for rides.
Rex was a hard worker and a valued employee at Ottawa Forest Products, Burger King, Powderhorn Mountain Ski Resort and Snow Country Hardwood.
Rex is survived by his mother, Marjorie Tapner; a sister, Theresa Dorking; two nephews, Joe Jaye (Brooke) and Jordan Smith; two aunts, Charlotte (Don) Cole and Kathy Smith; two uncles, Richard (Barb) Smith and Robert Smith; his half-siblings and cousins; his girlfriend, Jenny and her two daughters; and his good friends, Blanche and Julie.
He was preceded in death by his father, Rex J. Chambers; his grandparents, Wilho and Betty Jakkola; his stepfather, Ted Tapner; his uncle and aunt, Alan and Rose Smith; and a cousin, Larry Cook.
Cremation has taken place, and there will be no funeral service.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jerald Rocco, owner and manager of Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc., in Wakefield. Condolences may be expressed online at lakesidememorialchapel.com.
