Peggy Ann
Thompson-Loop
June 5, 1947 – May 20, 2025
MARENISCO, Mich. – Peggy Ann Thompson-Loop, 77, of Marenisco, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at Aspirus St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota.
Peggy was born on June 5, 1947, in New Orleans, a daughter of George Edward and Mattie M. (Jones) Thompson. She was raised in Conway, Arkansas.
Peggy earned her master's degree in science and education. She was a supporting member of the National Education Association.
Peggy worked in the Detroit school systems, where she was instrumental in many academic games. Peggy taught at the Vetal Elementary and Middle School in their mathematics department and later became an administrator. While teaching, she built a strong friendship with her aide, Mrs. Hillie. Peggy retired in 2008.
On March 15, 2008, Peggy was an honored recipient of the Karen Knoppow 2008 Lifetime Achievement Service Award. It was a momentous event for her. She kept in contact with some of her students, always wanting to know how they were getting along in life.
On Valentine's Day, 1983, Peggy was united in marriage to George Loop. It was a time remembered by all, as it was a traditional Polish reception at the family home in Dearborn Heights.
Seeing a need in the community, she helped begin the Marenisco Cancer Fund.
Peggy loved to go on vacation with George to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. She enjoyed listening to jazz, playing bingo, going to the casino and harness racing, and was a die-hard Detroit Tigers fan. She took great pleasure helping people not expecting anything in return. One of Peggy's greatest joys was spending quality time with her mother-in-law, who was known as Grandma to all.
Peggy is survived by her loving husband, George; George's son, Steven; her brother-in-law, Morley (Carol) Loop, their children and grandchildren; her dear friends, Rosemary Lynch Adlong, Nan Powell and Kelly Parker; and her spoiled and beloved dog, Mattie.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her mother-in-law, Annette Koliba; a sister, Ann; two brothers, George and Tommy; and her faithful dog, Lola.
A celebration of Peggy's life will be held on Saturday, July 12, at 11 a.m., at the Marenisco Town Hall. A luncheon will follow.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Marenisco Cancer Fund, Box 113, Marenisco, MI 49947.
