Obituary

WAKEFIELD, Mich. – Myrtle Louise Grabrick Morrison, 91, of Thomaston, died Tuesday, March 27, 2012, in Wakefield.

She was born on Oct. 16, 1920, in Skandia Township, the daughter of Verna Knapp and Byron Keebaugh. Myrtle was raised by her mother and stepfather, John Mattson. She graduated from Wakefield High School in 1937.

On June 7, 1941, Myrtle married George "Smoky" Grabrick at the Bessemer Methodist Church. He preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 1969.

She was employed by Divine Infant Hospital and volunteered for Gogebic-Ontonagon Community Action Agency.

Myrtle was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9084 Auxiliary. She enjoyed fishing, camping, knitting, crocheting and tatting. Myrtle loved her family and was always knitting or crocheting doilies, afghans or baby items for them or her friends.


On May 6, 1977, she married Clarence H. Morrison. For several summers, they were campground hosts at Pomeroy Lake. He preceded her in death on July 1, 1996.

Myrtle is survived by eight children, Donald (Linda) Grabrick, Joyce (Clayton) Conley, Gloria (Jim) Norby, Linda (Joe) Lutwitzi, George (Dottie) Grabrick, Phillip (Loretta) Grabrick, Gail (Eric) Taylor and John (Andrea) Grabrick; her stepson, Dale (Elaine) Morrison; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; several great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Donna Mattson; a brother, Wayne (Sharon) Mattson; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and several other loving relatives.


Besides her husbands, she was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Vernabelle Morrison and Diana Johnson; and several stepsisters and stepbrothers.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, March 30, from 10 to 11 a.m., at Lakeside Memorial Chapel in Wakefield, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Roy Speck, officiating.

A luncheon will be served at the Marenisco Town Hall following the service.

Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery in the spring.
