Miriam A.
Rund
January 3, 1939 – January 11, 2024
BESSEMER, Mich. – Miriam A. Rund, 85, of Bessemer, passed away peacefully Thursday, Jan. 11, 2024, surrounded by her loving family.
Miriam was born on Jan. 3, 1939, in Detroit, to Charles and Ingrid Taylor. She grew up in Royal Oak, Michigan, graduating from Dondero High School. During her school years, there were many friends and a group of six whose birthdays were either the same or just before or after Miriam's. These friends stayed in touch until only separated by the death of one of them. After graduating high school, she began working at General Motors which she was proud to share. Miriam spent many vacations at her Uncle Richard's camp near Watersmeet. She would recall the stories of being dropped off by the train near the camp and being met there by family. She also spent many times visiting with family at her grandma's house in Jessieville Location. During one of these visits she met Clayton Rund, and they were married on July 12,1962. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage and were blessed with two sons.
Miriam was an avid photographer and enjoyed her video camera as well. She was a freelance reporter/photographer for the Bessemer Pick and Axe in Bessemer. You could always see her with camera in hand to document activities. She also enjoyed camping, hunting, fishing, hiking and in her younger years, skiing in many areas. She always would talk about out fishing the guys by either catching the most or the biggest fish.
Other interests included volunteering with the Boy Scouts, 4H, the county fair and other area groups. She was active in the local Red Hat Society and was proud she was co-editor of the Bessemer Centennial paper. She liked doing her genealogy research and sharing the information with family and talking and corresponding with family in Finland.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and by three of her birthday buddies.
Mariam is survived by her husband, Clayton; two sons, Jon and Jim (Pam Langa); two brothers, Richard (Laura) Taylor and Bruce Taylor; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A service will be at a later date.
In Miriam's memory remember to always be prepared to answer her famous question, "Is there onions in that?" In her honor be sure to have a piece of peanut butter toast and a glass of milk.
Jerald Rocco, owner and manager of Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc., in Wakefield, is assisting the family.
