BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. - Leonard A. “Mick” McManman, 64, of Brooklyn Park, passed away Friday evening, Aug. 28, 2026, with his wife, Carol, and family by his side.

Mick was born on “the Ides of March,” March 15, 1962, at the Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia, to Daniel and Sandra (Anderson) McManman. His early years were spent with his family in Bloomington and Savage, Minnesota. When he was in the seventh grade, the family moved back to his parents’ hometown of Ironwood, Michigan, and the Norrie location.

Mick loved the small-town atmosphere and friendliness of his classmates and teachers at Norrie Grade School and Ironwood’s Luther L. Wright High School, where he participated in many sports, including basketball and football, but especially excelled in track and field. He was proud to be a member of the Ironwood Red Devil U.P. Regional Track and Field teams for four years (1977 through 1980). During those years, he took first place in numerous events, including the 100-yard dash, relay, and long jump. His accomplishments were something he remained proud of throughout his life, and to this day, he still holds records.

After graduating in 1980, Mick attended Gogebic Community College and Ferris State University, earning a degree in Business Administration. Following college, he was proud to be part of the “ground floor” of the emerging wireless communications industry. His career led to record-setting sales and management accomplishments in cellular communications and the expansion of major companies beginning in the late ’80s. His career eventually included a major expansion of T-Mobile, as well as the establishment of his own company, McManman Development Services.

Mick loved fishing almost as much as he loved his family. Looking through his phone, it seemed that nearly all of his cherished memories included him, his friends, and his family fishing—or, hopefully, holding a fish. Those two loves came together at the family cottage on Lake Gogebic. For Mick and Carol, it was their Happy Place: a place of relaxation and peace, and the setting for countless days of family fun.

We like to think that Mick is now fishing full-time.

He also loved a corny dad joke, jamming on his guitar, listening to classic rock, and endlessly quoting movies. One of his favorites: “We’re going to need a bigger boat.”

Mick was united in marriage on Sept. 7, 1985, to his best friend and love of his life, Carol Blomquist, at Salem Lutheran Church in Ironwood, celebrating more than 40 years together.

Mick is survived by his loving wife, Carol; three daughters, Cassandra (Logan Arends), Laura (Jason Wallis) and Diane Schnitker (Evan); a son, Jack; and a grandson, Mickey Schnitker, with another grandchild on the way in January 2027. He is also survived by his brother, Richard (Vicki); and his father, Dan. Also surviving are his in-laws, Greta Armata, John Blomquist and Peter Blomquist; along with many dear friends and family members.

Mick was preceded in death by his mother, Sandi; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Carol and John Blomquist; and his grandparents, Leonard and Nina McManman and Allan and Nelma Anderson.

In accordance with Mick’s wishes, cremation has taken place. There will be no service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date, to be announced.
