Obituary

IRONWOOD, Mich. - Mike Andrashie, 97, of Ironwood, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 30, 2025.

Born on May 1, 1927, Mike was the youngest of seven siblings, Julie, Mary, Anna, Andy, Joe and John, and was the last surviving member of his family. He lived a full and vibrant life marked by kindness, dedication and adventure.

A natural athlete, Mike was an accomplished ski jumper and among the last to jump from the historic Copper Peak near Ironwood. He served his country honorably during World War II as a member of the U.S. Navy, stationed in Hawaii.

After the war, Mike returned to work as a miner, where he met the love of his life, Lorraine. They were married on Nov. 13, 1954, just before deer season, as Lorraine fondly joked she was a "hunting widow" from the very beginning. Their love story was one for the ages. Devoted to each other from their first meeting to their final days, their bond inspired everyone who knew them.

Mike took great pride in his work and was honored on the Miners Memorial Mural in downtown Ironwood. He was also an avid gardener, known for his exceptional tomatoes and deep love of the outdoors. He kept a joyful menagerie of bird feeders and famously tamed chipmunks to eat from his shirt pockets.

Known for his warm smile and generous spirit, Mike had a kind word for everyone he met. He leaves behind a legacy of love, humor and quiet strength.

He will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, May 20, from 10 to 10:45 a.m., in the St. Joseph Family Room at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, 108 S. Marquette St., in Ironwood.

A Mass of Christian Burial will follow the visitation at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Brian Gerber, celebrant.

Following the Mass, full military rites will be accorded in the St. Joseph Family Room by the Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard assisted by the U.S. Navy Funeral Honors Team.

A luncheon will follow the military honors.

Rite of Committal and private interment will be at Riverside Cemetery in Ironwood.
