Obituary

WAKEFIELD, Mich. – Mary C. Deichelbor, 87, of Marenisco, died Monday, July 16, 2012, at Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield, with her daughters at her side.

She was born on Oct. 16, 1924, in Montreal, Wis., the daughter of Peter and Mary (Muratt) Smolich. Mary graduated from Marenisco High School and after graduation attended Green Bay School of Business.

On June 14, 1947, she married Glennowen R. Deichelbor at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Marenisco. They made their home in Marenisco.

Mary was an avid sports fan. She especially enjoyed basketball and baseball. Her greatest love, however, were her three grandchildren. Much precious time was spent with them.

Mary is survived by her brother, William (Phyllis) Smolich, Ishpeming; two daughters, Mary Ellen Chiapuzio, Marenisco, and Susan (Hank) Aapala, Wakefield; two granddaughters, Amy (Brian) Adrian, Honolulu, Hawaii, and Nikki (Jared) Hallberg, Savage, Minn.; three great-grandchildren, Halle, Brady and Lucas; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glen, on Aug. 14, 1985; her son-in-law, Dominic Chiapuzio, on March 29, 1998; and her grandson, Brian "Chip" Chiapuzio, on July 8, 2004.

A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Catherine's Catholic Church in Marenisco, with the Rev. Ben Hasse, celebrant.

Rite of Committal and burial will take place in Marenisco Cemetery.
