WAKEFIELD, Mich. – Mark D. Mattson, 69, a lifelong resident of Wakefield, passed away on Friday, Feb. 2, 2024, at his home.

Mark was born on Sept. 18, 1954, in Wakefield, a son of Elmer and Viola (Hongisto) Mattson. He was a graduate of Wakefield High School.

On July 14, 1975, Mark was united in marriage to the love of his life, Brenda Lee Nyman, at the First Lutheran Church in Wakefield.

Mark is survived by his wife, Brenda; two sons, Jason (Holly) and Justin (Heather); four grandchildren, Carter, Hailee, Alanah and Lynsey; a sister, Julie (Ted) Harju; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Gary; and two sisters, Joyce and Christine.

The family is honoring his life in a private funeral service.
