WAKEFIELD, Mich. – Margaret Suzanne (nee Syreini) Pohjola, 82, of Wakefield, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025, at Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield.

Margaret was born on Dec. 8, 1942, in Wakefield, a daughter of Jacob Hjalmer and Siama Margaret (Ollikka) Syreini. She attended Wakefield High School and graduated in 1960. She continued her education for one year in Duluth, Minnesota, taking secretarial courses.

On July 29, 1961, Margie was united in marriage to Roy Gustof Pohjola at First Lutheran Church in Wakefield.

Her hobbies included photography and collecting countless angels. She was a talented seamstress, a ceramic artist and enjoyed knitting.

Margie was a cashier at HiWay 2 Super Valu in Bessemer, worked in the accounts payable department for Gogebic Medical Care Facility, then went to work as a cook and an accounts payable secretary at Grand View Hospital. She concluded her working career as a cashier at Lindquist Electric in Ironwood.

Margie is survived by her loving husband, Roy; two sons, Michael Roy (Julie), Trevor, Wisconsin, and Todd Darren (Julie), Oshkosh, Wisconsin; five cherished grandchildren, Sarah, Austin, Kyle (Tori), Zack and Nick; a precious great-granddaughter, Hadley; a dear sister, Jeanne Syreini-Miller, Erwin Township; three brothers, Jacob Syreini, Kenosha, Wisconsin, Kenneth Syreini, Fort Myers, Florida, and Doug (Carol) Syreini, Genoa City, Wisconsin; her brother-in-law, Carl Pohjola, Anchorage, Alaska; her sister-in-law, Pat Pohjola, Holmen, Wisconsin; and numerous special nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Tammy Jean, in 1978; her brother-in-law, Don Pohjola; and two sisters-in-law, Marlene Syreini and Carol Pesola.

A funeral service will be held on Sunday, Jan. 5, at 2 p.m., preceded by visitation at 1:15 p.m., at Lakeside Memorial Chapel, 806 Putnam St., in Wakefield. The Rev. Thomas Rouse, pastor of Lighthouse Faith Center in Ironwood, will officiate.

Luncheon will be served at the Club 28 in Wakefield, immediately following the service.

A committal service and interment will take place in the spring at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Bessemer.
