Obituary

HURLEY, Wis. – Marcia "Kay" Lyon, a long-time resident of Hurley, died early Sunday morning, Sept. 16, 2018, in Hurley.

Born in 1915 in Tampico, Ill., Marcia attended and graduated from school there. She often told the story of a debate she had with Ronald Reagan, who was three years ahead of her in school at Tampico. The debate topic was agriculture, which she chose, knowing she'd have the upper hand, having been raised on a farm. As her story went, she won the debate hands down and anyone who knew her would testify that she rarely lost an argument since.

After graduation, Marcia worked various jobs, then made her way to the Hurley area. She purchased a building on Silver Street and started a hotel/bar business named Kay's Place. She later converted it to her home.

Marcia was an avid sports fan and she enjoyed watching sports of all kinds, but her favorites were Milwaukee Brewers baseball and the Green Bay Packers. In her later years when her eyesight failed, she loved to listen to the play-by-play action on her trusty bedside radio.

Marcia's hobbies included playing bingo and trying her luck with lottery tickets. She was one of a kind and will be missed.

Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held at a later date.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jerald Rocco, owner and manager of Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc., in Wakefield. Condolences may be expressed online at lakesidememorialchapel.com.
