HURLEY, Wis. – Mae M. Hendrickson, age 101, a long-time resident of Gile, passed away on Saturday, Sept. 6, 2025, at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley.
Mae was born on Nov. 6, 1923, in Bessemer Township, Michigan, a daughter of Waino F. and Lizzie S. (Johnson) Minkin. She attended Bessemer schools.
Mae lived and worked in Milwaukee for 17 years, then moved back to Hurley.
On June 15, 1946, Mae was united in marriage with Lloyd W. Hendrickson in Oma Township.
For many years, Mae owned and operated Mae's Rustic Inn (North Pole) in Hurley.
Mae is survived by a sister, Melba Hendrickson, Cottage Grove, Oregon; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lloyd on June 7, 1970; three brothers, Eugene, John and Kelly; four sisters, Alice, Ruth, Adele and Dorothy; and her four-legged companion, Tammy.
Out of respect for her wishes, cremation has taken place.
A graveside service will be held on Friday, Sept. 19 at 1 p.m., at the Hurley Cemetery. The Rev. Doug Norquist, pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ironwood, Michigan, will officiate.
In keeping with Mae's love for animals, in lieu of floral offerings, memorial contributions may be made to HOPE Animal Shelter, Box 261, Ironwood, MI 49938.
