WAKEFIELD, Mich. – Lyle John Thompson, 72, of Wakefield, passed away early Thursday morning, Sept. 17, 2026, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau, Wisconsin.

Lyle was born on April 4, 1954, in Wakefield, a son of Lyle Edward and Ilta Sulamit (Maki) Thompson. He graduated from Wakefield High School.

Lyle worked in the blacktopping business all of his adult life.

On May 11, 1979, Lyle married Vicky I. Peterson and together they had three children.

Lyle was an avid “hunter, trader, trapper, fisherman, blacktopper and occasional carpenter” as he loved to say. Chaney Lake was where Lyle found his serenity and countless memories were created.

Lyle is survived by a son, Chad Thompson (Melissa); two daughters, Stacy Petersen (Aaron) and Heather Jacobson; his stepson, Mickey Peterson (Dana); 12 grandchildren, Dylan Thompson (Sydney), Bella Thompson, Joel Thompson, Morgan Petersen, Alyssa Petersen, Johnathan Petersen, Austin Peterson (Sophi), Caden Peterson, Baylie Peterson, Michael Jacobson (Nicole), Michelle Jacobson and Benjamin Jacobson; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, William Thompson and Robin Thompson; a sister, Linnea Peymbroeck (Nelson); many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, Debbie Maki.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son-in-law, Bruce Jacobson; a brother, John E. Thompson; and a sister, Christine I. Giovanoni.

At his request, cremation has taken place.

There will be two Celebrations of Life: the first on Saturday, Oct. 17, beginning at 1 p.m. at the American Legion Geroux Post 11, 605 River St., in Wakefield, and the second one on Sunday, Oct. 25, from 1 to 4 p.m. at Hanks Sport Bar & Grill, 1306 Hwy. 45, Scanlon, Minnesota.
