WAKEFIELD, Mich. – Lucy J. Golembeski, 92, a long-time resident of Wakefield, passed away Monday morning, Feb. 20, 2017.

Lucy was born on Aug. 17, 1924, in Trout Creek, a daughter of Alice (Catterson) and George D. Sworab Sr. She attended school in Marenisco and Chicago.

On Sept. 28, 1940, Lucy was united in marriage to Ted T. Golembeski at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Wakefield.

They celebrated 53 years of marriage before his passing on Jan. 2, 1994.

Lucy continued her education at Northern Michigan University Nursing School in Marquette and graduated in 1967.

She was employed as a licensed practical nurse at Divine Infant Hospital in Wakefield.

In 1971, she opened Lucy's Ceramics in Wakefield. Lucy was very artistic and talented and gave classes to both young and old. She made countless wonderful friends. Lucy moved from her building in 1997 and continued ceramics at her home.


Lucy was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and its women's guild. For 18 years, she was a volunteer at Grand View Hospital Auxiliary.

Lucy is survived by two sons, Ted and Michael; a daughter, Jean Hansen; eight grandchildren, Teri Jo Brocklehust, Troy Hansen, Tammy Mathison, Chris Golembeski, Todd Golembeski, Michele Hemb, Amy Buresh and Sarah Spychalla; 10 great-grandchildren, Brittney, Mitchel, Cora, Carly, Megan, Aric, Hailey, Austin, Brady and Brock; two great-great-grandchildren, Emilia and Shiloh; numerous nieces and nephews; and her kitty, Tutti 2.

Besides her husband, she was predeceased by her parents; a daughter, Gloria Jean, in 1941; a brother, George Sworab Jr, in 1976.

In accordance with Lucy's wishes, cremation has taken place.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, Feb. 24, at noon, preceded by visitation at 11 a.m., at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Dominic Agyapong, celebrant.

Also in attendance will be the Immaculate Conception Women's Guild Honor Guard.

A luncheon will be served at the church hall following the Mass.

Rite of Committal and interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield, in the spring.
