Obituary

IRONWOOD, Mich. – Linda Evelyn Freeman, 68, of Ironwood, passed away Sunday, April 9, 2023, at her home.

Linda was born on July 23, 1954, to Richard and Lois (Swain) Freeman in San Francisco. She lived her childhood years in California.

In 1981, Linda joined the U.S. Army in hopes of being a helicopter pilot in which women were not allowed to at that time, so she settled with being an auto mechanic that she absolutely loved. Linda was honorably discharged in 1987. She moved shortly after that to Sparks, Nevada.

Linda met Julie Mallison in 1990, in Reno, Nevada, where they were good friends, until 2001. They became partners and Julie brought Linda to God's country, the great Upper Peninsula of Michigan (Ironwood), where the Bale/Mallison/ La'Angelle Families took Linda in as one of their own.

Linda worked in carpentry and labor jobs, up until she was 60 years old, where health problems forced her retirement.

Throughout the years, Linda enjoyed being by Julie's side, doing tournaments, camping with their dogs and going to the lake. She enjoyed being out in the yard gardening and admiring nature. Linda loved all animals, had a large heart with rescuing and helping out Ironwood's animal shelter HOPE, or any animal in need, including the deer that visited around their property.

She enjoyed having barbeques and get-togethers and hanging with friends. Linda would make her famous pork burritos that she made sure everyone got to try. She loved to tinker, and fixed things even if they didn't have to be fixed. She wholeheartedly just loved to live life, socialize and enjoyed the little things.

Julie and Linda frequented Bad River, where they made a pact with each other, they would always go together no matter what. They were well known at Breakwater and Golden Dragon when they could afford it. She sure did love her food.

Linda took honor in helping their neighbors, opening their home to those-in-need. She was admirable with a heart of gold, cancer taking her isn't a goodbye, it's we'll see you later.

She is survived by her life partner, Julie Mallison; their fur babies, Chyanne, Covid, Spider, Gizo and Winter; and extended family and friends.

Family and friends have donation jars set up at Holiday Gas Station, Breakwater, Larry's Lucky Strike, Cup It, Uptown Cafe, Tacconelli's To Go and Contrast Coffee. They also have a gofundme https://gofund.me/d90fd352 for unforeseen costs. Every penny counts.

There will be a celebration of life on Saturday, July 8, from 1 – 8 p.m., at Little Girls Point pavilion (closest to the restrooms). All are welcomed that knew Linda. It will be a potluck so bring your favorite dish or treats. If you cannot bring anything, your presence is appreciated regardless. We look forward to seeing everyone!
