WAKEFIELD, Mich. – Katherine Louise (Shirkey) Wiita, 57, of Wakefield, passed away on Thursday, March 5, 2026, at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield, after a lengthy illness.

Kathy was born on July 3, 1968, in Flint, the daughter of Sharon Louise (Hawkins) and Calvin Lee Shirkey Sr. She attended Wakefield High School and graduated in 1986.

Kathy was a faithful member of All Saints Lutheran Church in Wakefield, where she taught Sunday school.

Kathy is survived by her husband, Gerald "Gerry" Wiita; a brother, Calvin (Tina) Shirkey; two nephews, Shawn (Shannon) Shirkey and Ryan Shirkey; two great-nephews, Austin and Hunter; a great-niece, Alyssa; an aunt and uncle, Dorothy and Jim Stanley; several cousins; special friends, Rita and Jesse; and other relatives on Gerry's side.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Todd Lee Shirkey, on May 8, 1993.

A private graveside service and interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield, later this spring.
