BRUCE CROSSING, Mich. – Jon Timothy Miller, 78, of Bruce Crossing, passed away Saturday, Feb. 29, 2020, at his home. He was surrounded by his beloved family.
Jon was born on Oct. 24, 1941, in Coshocton, Ohio, a son of Charles and Eloise Miller. He grew up in Flint and graduated from Flint Central High School.
Jon proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy as a ceremonial guard in Washington, D.C., and a submarine sailor stationed in Hawaii, Japan and off the coast of Russia.
After his honorable discharge, he lived in Flint and was employed as a foreman at General Motors. Jon moved to the Upper Peninsula and was a foreman at White Pine Copper Range and was a logger. He relocated back to Flint as a foreman for R.C. Engineering and in Atlanta, Georgia. He returned to the U.P and worked at the Lac Vieux Desert Golf Course in Watersmeet.
In his spare time, Jon enjoyed fishing, playing his ukulele and guitar, golfing, entertaining friends and telling his grandchildren stories. He was an excellent cook.
He was a supporting member of the Bruce Crossing Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9345.
Jon is survived by his loving wife, Norma; six children, Pam (Robert) Ryan, Atlanta, Brent, Trout Creek, Tim, Earlville, Illinois, Kelly (Will) Niemi, Billings, Montana, Karin (Bill) Andrus and Brad Lehto, both of Bruce Crossing; his former wife, Sharon; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; his twin brother, Jan S. (Judy), Stanton, brother, David (Nancy), Dayton, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; and a granddaughter, Randi.
A celebration of Jon's life will be held at a later date.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jerald Rocco, owner and manager of Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc., in Wakefield. Condolences may be expressed online at lakesidememorialchapel.com.
