CRYSTAL FALLS, Mich. – John "Jack" Perron Sr., 79, of Wakefield, died Monday, May 21, 2012, at Iron County Medical Care Facility in Crystal Falls.
He was born on Aug. 28, 1932, at the old Grand View Hospital in Bessemer Township, the son of Orel R. and Lona B. (Miller) Perron. Jack graduated from Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood.
He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
On Jan. 31, 1953, Jack married Constance "Connie" L. Johnson at First Lutheran Church in Wakefield.
His hobbies included hunting, fishing, playing baseball and watching the Detroit Tigers.
Jack was a member and past commander of Marenisco American Legion Post 523 and a past president of the Marenisco School Board.
He was employed as a shop foreman at White Pine Copper Co. for 22 years, as a federal mine inspector for more than 10 years and at the Gogebic County Road Commission for six years.
Jack is survived by three children, Mike (Lori) Perron, Dr. Kim (Bruce) Mahler and John Jr. (Lee) Perron, all of Marenisco; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Jerry (Paula), on their farm in Indiana, and Bill (Judy), Toledo, Ohio; three sisters, Debby (Dan) Duchan, Vashon Island, Wash., Nancy (Bob) Rutherford and Kathy Dahl, both of Marenisco; numerous nieces and nephews; and other loving relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepfather, Curt Dahl, in 1995; his loving wife, Connie, on May 28, 2000; a son, Thomas, February 1958; a grandson, Christopher Mahler, Aug. 22, 1979; and a brother, Ron, February 1996.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Friday, May 25, from 12:30 to 2 p.m., at Marenisco Town Hall, where a funeral service will follow at 2 p.m. The Rev. Raymond F. Moncher will officiate.
Burial will take place in Marenisco Cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by the Marenisco American Legion Post 523, Wakefield American Legion Post 11 and Wakefield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9084 Honor Guard.
Following the military honors, lunch will be served at the Marenisco Town Hall.
