Obituary

TROUT CREEK, Mich. – Joe Cottenham, 85, a lifelong resident of Trout Creek, passed away on Sunday, March 12, 2023.

Joe was born on May 3, 1937, in Trout Creek, a son of John and Helen Cottenham. He was the seventh of eight children. Joe attended Trout Creek High School and graduated in 1956. He was a proud member of the Trout Creek Anglers State Class E Championship Team. Joe continued his education at Gogebic Community College and received a certificate in auto body work.

On Dec. 21, 1963, Joe was united in marriage to Joannne Hietamaki in Iron River. They made their home in Trout Creek and had two children.

He was employed by White Pine Copper and at his retirement he was a furnace man.

Joe was a very active member of the Trout Creek Centennial Committee and participated in the annual pond fest. At any given time, he could be found on the riding lawn mower. Joe took great pride in his work. For many years, he was the sexton for Interior Township and did general upkeep of the cemeteries; this included the Agate Cemetery.

Joe is survived by his wife, Joanne; a daughter, Lorena; a son, John; four grandchildren; two great-granddaughters; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

He was predeceased by his parents; and all of his siblings.

A private service will be held in the spring.

Interment will take place at the Trout Creek Cemetery.
