IRONWOOD, Mich. – Jeremiah J. Johnson, 29, of Ramsay, died unexpectedly Thursday, March 15, 2012, at Aspirus Grand View Hospital in Ironwood.
He was born on Feb. 2, 1983, in Ashland, Wis., the son of Duane Jeffrey and Pearl (Wiitanen) Johnson. Jeremiah graduated from Wakefield High School in 2002. He attended Gogebic Community College, where he completed the utility technician program.
Jeremiah was a pipeliner, a job that allowed him to travel all over the United States. He was a member of the Wisconsin Operating Engineers Local 139, and recently received his journeyman card. When not working, Jeremiah continued his operator training in Coloma, Wis.
He touched the lives of so many in our community and will be sorely missed yet remembered with love in our hearts.
Jeremiah enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing and following the Detroit Lions.
On Nov. 21, 2007, he married Stefanie K. Jewess in Bessemer.
Jeremiah is survived by his wife, Stefanie; a son, Trenton; his parents, Duane "Jeff" and Pearl, Wakefield; a brother, Jerry, Wakefield; his father- and mother-in-law, Frank and Claire Jewess, Ramsay; his brother-in-law, James Jewess, stationed in Hawaii; grandparents, Gerald Wiitanen, Wakefield, Connie (Joseph) Bialek, North Stonington, Conn., Arvid and Bernadine Anderson, Ramsay, and Yoko Jewess, Wakefield; his great-grandmother, Delphine Johnson, Wakefield; several aunts and uncles, Jane and Brian Massi and their children, Marissa and Mallory, all of Wakefield, Ron Johnson, West Bend, Wis., Kim (Mark) Allen, Westerly R.I., Joe (Wendy) Bialek, Groton, Conn., and Pam (Gary) Radtke, of Wisconsin; several cousins, including MistyJane, Becky and Shelly; and many friends across the United States. He was a friend to all he met. Mia would always go the extra mile for anyone and his kindness will be missed.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Duane and June Johnson; and an uncle, Jerry Wiitanen.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Tuesday, March 20, from 2 to 4 p.m., at All Saints Lutheran Church in Wakefield, where a funeral service will follow at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Bill Jacobson officiating.
A luncheon will be served at the Wakefield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9084 following the service.
Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery in the spring.
