Obituary

EWEN, Mich. - Janet Leona Wolfe, 88, of Ewen, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 25, 2023, at her home surrounded by her family.

Janet was born on Nov. 9, 1934, in Bruce Crossing, to Waino and Saima Rajala. She grew up with two sisters, Shirley and Judy. Janet worked as a cook at Ewen-Trout Creek School and Cloverland Senior Center. Janet was swept off her feet by Bob Wolfe in high school and they were married on Sept. 5, 1953. They celebrated nearly 57 years of marriage before his passing on March 17, 2010. She was a loving mother of five children.

Janet was happiest when she was in the kitchen and when she was with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Many memories were made together at the Wolfe family cabin. She loved it when family and friends stopped in for a visit and always served coffee and cookies. The grandkids were especially fond of her mint brownies. She made them every time they were together. Her kids have fond memories of getting off the bus to the smell of freshly baked bread. One thing was for certain, you never left her house hungry. Mom will always be remembered best for her forgiving and kind nature.

Janet is survived by her children, Sandy Bjorkman (Frank), Menominee, Steve Wolfe (Brian), Bloomington, Illinois, Dan Wolfe, Ewen, and Amy Hockenbrock (Scott), Foxboro, Wisconsin; her daughter-in-law, Sharon Ihlenfeldt, Kingsland, Georgia; 11 grandchildren, Jessica, Adam, Kristin, Cassie, Leah, PJ, Hunter, Hannah, Joshua, Jamie and Jayci; 12 great-grandchildren; a sister, Judy, Danville, California; her sister-in-law, Marie Kuehnl, Bruce Crossing; and many nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; a son, Scott; her stepfather, Reino Suhonen; her father-in-law, Joe Wolfe; her mother-in-law, Minnie Wolfe; a sister, Shirley Thuis; and two brothers, Bobby and Billy.

A very special thank you goes to Aspirus Home Hospice nurses, Melissa, Julie and Leah. Their dedicated and loving care during the past year will always be treasured. Also to Lois and Elise, her special caregivers; they had a special bond. She always lit up when all of these ladies walked in the room. She really loved their company the most.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, July 28, at 4 p.m., EDT, preceded by visitation at 3 p.m., EDT, at Sacred Heart Church, 201 Birch St., in Ewen, with the Rev. Michael Jacobus, celebrant, and the Rev. Brian Gerber, concelebrant and homilist.

Rite of Committal and interment will follow at the Evergreen Cemetery in Ewen.

A dinner will be served at the parish hall immediately upon return from the cemetery.
