WAKEIFELD, Mich. – James Farrell “Jim” Gembolis, 71, a long-time resident of Wakefield, died peacefully at his home on Sunday, Aug. 16, 2026.

Jim was born on Oct. 11, 1954, in Wakefield, a son of Joseph D. and Dorothy E. (Zuildmulder) Gembolis. He attended Wakefield High School and graduated in 1972. Jim continued his education at Michigan Technological University and earned his bachelor of science degree in forestry.

Jim worked at Indianhead Mountain in numerous positions. His last years were in ski lift management.

Jim enjoyed outdoor life. He maintained a small hobby farm including beef animals, chickens, turkeys and pigs. He had large gardens, an orchard and a trout pond. Jim loved to hunt and fish.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Joseph; and a sister Rosemary.

He leaves behind three sisters, Susan and Linda, both of Wakefield, and Joann (Melvin) Johnson, Robbinsdale, Minnesota; and a close, childhood friend, Larry Johnson.

Private graveside services will be held at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
