Obituary

WESTON, Wis. – James "Hummo" Anderson, 68, of Wakefield, Mich., died Sunday, June 17, 2012, at St. Clare's Hospital in Weston, with his family and friends at his side.

He was born on Dec. 20, 1943, in Wakefield, son of the late Wally and Verna (Schult) Anderson. Hummo joined the U.S. Army at the age of 17, serving in Korea. Later on he received his GED diploma from the Wakefield High School.

Hummo was part owner of Superior Tree Service for many years. In the past years, he was co-owner of Superior Tree & Stump Service along with his son and friend, Jeff, until the time of his death.

Hummo was on the board of the Gogebic Chiefs Hockey, which started in Thomaston, Mich., and later moved to the glove factory. He coached many kids through the years with patience and love.


Hummo loved fishing, hunting, making wood and cutting trees. He also loved country music, his dog, Buddy and the Green Bay Packers. The cottage, pontoon boat and sauna were his domain and he loved sharing them with family and friends.

Hummo knew no strangers. He took pride in his life and work.

He was a member of the Wakefield American Legion Post 11 and the Wakefield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9084. Hummo was an outstanding citizen, family man and friend, and will be sadly missed by all.

He loved his wife, children, family and friends unconditionally.

Hummo is survived by his wife, Carol (Stoviak) Anderson, Wakefield; a daughter, Barbie (Bill) Miner, Appleton; five sons, David, Steve (Stephanie), Randy (Sarah) and Jeff (Bethany), all of Wakefield, and Danno, Adams, Minn.; 14 grandchildren; a brother, Jerry (Toni-Ann), Wakefield; two sisters, Darlene (Norman) Petkac, Cleveland, Ohio, and Gail Anderson Thompson, Wakefield; four brothers-in-law, Roy (JoAnn) Sand, Wakefield, Jack (Carole) Stoviak and Louis (Jean) Stoviak, both of Milwaukee, and Ken (Anita) Stoviak, Tomahawk; two sisters-in-law, Barbara Hartman and Lynn (Mike) Schulenburg, both of Milwaukee; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides his parents, Hummo was preceded in death by a son, James; and a sister, Ruthie.


Funeral services will be held Thursday, June 21, at 4 p.m., at All Saints Lutheran Church, 1202 Putnam St., Wakefield, with the Rev. Bill Jacobson officiating.

The Anderson family will receive relatives and friends at the church on Thursday from 2 p.m. until the time of the service, with the honor guard beginning at 3:15 p.m.

Following the service, military rites will take place at the church under the auspices of Wakefield American Legion Post 11 and Wakefield VFW Post 9084 Honor Guard.

A reception will be held at the Wakefield American Legion Post 11 following the military honors.

In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be directed to the Polar Bear Hockey Club, the Ironwood Dance Company, the Wakefield Little League, Bay Cliff Health Camp in Big Bay, Mich., or the charity of your choice.
