WAKEFIELD, Mich. – Hilda Kare Schneck, 95, a longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away peacefully Monday evening, May 15, 2017, at her home.

Hilda was born on May 25, 1921, in Molde, Norway, the daughter of Lorentz and Sigrid Gjelsten. At the age of four, Hilda, her parents and brother, Robert came to the United States.

On March 14, 1941, Hilda was united in marriage to Gordon Schneck. They recently celebrated 76 years of marriage, and were blessed with three children.

Hilda was a faithful member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bessemer.

Hilda is survived by her husband, Gordon; a daughter, Gloria Schneck, Wakefield; a son, Leslie (Ellen) Schneck, Wakefield; two grandsons, Scott (Izumi) Schneck, Japan, and Joshua Schneck, Wakefield; a granddaughter, Joedy Schneck, Superior, Wis.; two great-grandchildren, Justice and Airi Schneck, both of Japan; and her sister-in-law, Sarah Gjelsten, Libertyville, Ill.

She was predeceased by her parents; a daughter, Linda Tussler, on March 26, 2017; and two brothers and a sister-in-law, Robert and Audrey Gjelsten and Lloyd Gjelsten.

A funeral service will be held Friday, May 19, at 10 a.m., preceded by visitation at 9 a.m., at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, E8223 Sanders Road, with the Rev. Timothy J. Steckling officiating.

A committal service and interment will follow at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.

Luncheon will be served at the church fellowship hall upon returning from the cemetery.
