IRONWOOD, Mich. — It is with heavy hearts and profound admiration that we announce the passing of Harry P. Collins Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, who left this world peacefully at home on Aug. 27, 2026. Born on Aug. 12, 1934, in Ironwood, Harry lived a life filled with love, dedication and adventure. He was 92 years old.
Harry was the cherished son of Harry P. Collins Sr. and Frances Collins, both of whom preceded him in death; along with his sister, Mary Lou Isaacson; and brothers, Larry and John Collins. Despite these losses, Harry's spirit was ever buoyed by the love and companionship of his devoted wife, Joyce, with whom he shared 68 beautiful years of marriage. They married on Jan. 11, 1958, and together they built a family and a lifetime of memories.
Harry was a proud graduate of Saint Ambrose High School in Ironwood, class of 1952. Shortly after, he served his country with honor in the Michigan Army National Guard from 1952 to 1960, achieving the rank of sergeant before his honorable discharge.
His career was as diverse as the interests that filled his life. Harry began his professional journey as a lineman for the Lake Superior Power Company and later transitioned to various roles at Forslund Building Supply. Eventually, he found his true calling as an independent logger, a role that perfectly suited his love for the great outdoors.
Harry was an avid fisherman, hunter and trapper. His profound knowledge of the woods and waters led him to share his expertise as a guide, a role that brought him immense joy. The wilderness was his sanctuary, and he spent countless hours in his happy place, connecting with nature and sharing those moments with his family and friends
.He is survived by his loving wife, Joyce; his children, Diane (John) Hegbloom and Tim Collins; and his treasured grandchildren, Hannah (Matt) Doane and Cassie (Steve) Bluhm. Harry's legacy of love and strength continues through his four great-grandchildren, who brought him endless joy and pride.
A memorial service to celebrate Harry's remarkable life will be held on Sept. 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, located at E5104 E. Margaret St., Ironwood. Family and friends are invited to honor his memory and find solace in the shared stories of his life well-lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice, in keeping with Harry's generous spirit. The Collins family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff from Aspirus Home Health and Hospice for their unwavering support during this difficult time.
Harry P. Collins Jr. will be remembered for his unwavering love for his family and his deep connection to the land he cherished. Though he has left this world, his spirit will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
