Gordon Henry Schneck
WAKEFIELD, Mich. – Gordon Henry Schneck, 97, a longtime resident of Wakefield, passed away peacefully Wednesday evening, Dec. 4, 2019, at the Gogebic Medical Care Facility in Wakefield, in the company of loved ones.
Gordon was born on May 31, 1922, in Brokaw, Wis., a son of Alfred and Viola (Johnston) Schneck.
He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during World War II in Germany from 1942 to 1946.
Gordon was employed with his father in the logging industry, at Connor Forest Industries and Koller Cranberry Marsh.
On March 14, 1941, he was united in marriage to Hilda Gjelsten. They were blessed with 76 years of marriage and three children.
Gordon is survived by a son, Leslie (Ellen), Wakefield; two grandsons, Scott (Izumi), Japan, and Josh, Wakefield; a granddaughter, Joedy (Tom), Superior, Wis.; two great-grandchildren, Justice and Airi, both of Japan; two half-sisters, Rose Bratu, Ironwood, and Lisa Wing, Dexter; and his sister-in-law, Sarah Gjelsten, Libertyville, Ill.
He was predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife, Hilda, on May 15, 2017; two daughters, Gloria Schneck, on Sept 23, 2019, and Linda Tussler, on March 26, 2017; his son-in-law, Bob Tussler; a brother, Floyd; a sister, Audrey Marten Lane; and a half-sister, Helen Schneck.
A graveside service will be held in the spring at Lakeside Cemetery in Wakefield, where full military rites will be accorded.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the caring staff of Gogebic Medical Care Facility for their compassionate and professional care, and for the many kindnesses extended to the family.
