George N.
Nasi
August 6, 1938 – February 2, 2025
HURLEY, Wis. - George N. Nasi left this world on February 2, 2025, after a well lived life.
He was born August 6, 1938, to Einar and Fina Nasi in Montreal. On February 22, 1958, George was united in marriage to Verna Thompson.
George took great pride in his daughters, Suzie (Ace) Wick and Lisa (Steve) Innes; and sons, Bob (Greta), Gerry, and Bill (Diane). He had 16 grand and step-grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren. He also had numerous nephews and nieces, as well as friends that were like family.
George lived the life of an outdoorsman and an adventurer and instilled those passions in his children and everyone else within his orbit. He taught and led by example. He loved being on the water and taught his kids how to fish and waterski; he loved the Northwoods and taught his kids how to hunt, trap and navigate the woods.
His adventurous nature led to a lifetime of fishing trips in Canada, hunting and fishing trips out west and in Alaska, and hunting camp life in Pine Lake that began early each autumn and lasted until the final day of deer season. In each adventure he was surrounded by family, lifelong friends, and friends made along the way. There was never a dull moment and there was always imminent excitement. While accounts of these exploits may sound like tall tales when told later, odds are they are true.
George's curiosity led him to taking to the air, piloting a Cessna Skyhawk to get a bird's eye view of prosperous hunting grounds and timber stands. He generously offered an open seat to anyone who wanted to "go up" and was proud of taking many of the area youth on their first flights as part of the EAA's Young Eagles program.
George worked with his brothers at Ero Nasi Construction and later formed George Nasi Construction. In business he hired and cultivated young upstarts, teaching the next generation a solid work ethic and the value of the trades.
Ever good natured, upon completion of an arduous or unpleasant task George would say, "that wasn't too much monkey business." Ever the optimist, George could look out into the most blinding rainstorm and remark, "its clearing in the North."
In addition to his parents, Verna's parents, Eleanor and Verner Thompson, George was preceded in death by his stepfather, John Juurahko; daughter-in-law, Jean Nasi; and all nine of his siblings.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Feb. 8, at Zion Lutheran Church in Ironwood, with Pastor Nicole Hanson-Lynn officiating. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. and the service to follow at 11 a.m.
The family would like to thank the caregivers at Villa Maria Health and Rehab Center for the kind and gentle care provided, and the Lakeside Memorial Chapel. Memorials in honor George can be made at Zion Lutheran Church or Hurley Education Foundation-Northwoods Manufacturing.
Jerald Rocco, owner and manager of Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc., in Wakefield, Michigan, is assisting the family. To send online condolences or to share a memory please go to lakesidememorialchapel.com.
