Obituary

BESSEMER, Mich. - Gary Malcolm Erickson, 71, a lifelong resident of Bessemer, passed away peacefully at home on Thursday, Aug. 25, 2022.

Gary was born on May 26, 1951, to Agnes and Malcolm Erickson.

After graduating from the A.D. Johnston High School in 1969, he attended Northern

Michigan University and received training and education in law enforcement, beginning his career and dedication for serving his community. Gary retired as the undersheriff of the Gogebic County Sheriff's Department after proudly serving as an officer for more than 30 years. During these years, he also served as a firefighter with the Bessemer Volunteer Fire Department.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a son, Greg.

Gary is survived by his wife of 31 years, Sandra; one child, Jody (Richard) Visconti, Saratoga Springs, New York; Sandra's two children, Stephanie (Jim) Marchello Raymond, Wakefield, and Michael (Cheri) Marchello, Bessemer; a sister, Patricia (Bruce) Gustafson, Naubinway; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Cremation has taken place and a celebration of Gary's life will be held at the Bluff Valley Park, N. Moore St., in Bessemer, on Friday, Sept. 16, from 3 to 6 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Gary's name to the Regional Hospice Services and Palliative Care, 2l6 E. Aurora St., Ironwood, MI 49938.
