Obituary

IRONWOOD, Mich. – Frank Edward Wilson Jr., age 91, of Ironwood, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, Aug. 25, 2025.

Frank was born on March 9, 1934, in Terre Haute, Indiana, son of the late Vada and Frank Wilson Jr. He attended school in Terre Haute.

On Dec. 15, 1962, Frank was united in marriage with Eva Anderson at Wesley Methodist Church in Ironwood.

Frank entered the U.S. Air Force at the age of 19. He served honorably for 20 years. Tours of duty included the Vietnam War and numerous deployments.

Following his Air Force retirement, Frank was employed as an electronic technician doing computer and appliance repair. He worked for Johnson Music Store Inc. and Sears Roebuck and Company, both in Ironwood, and concluded his working career at the Marquette-Alger Intermediate School District. He resided in Ironwood after his retirement.

Frank enjoyed golfing at Eagle Bluff Golf Club in Hurley, Wisconsin, and carded a "hole-in-one." He also recorded a perfect 300 game in bowling. Frank took pleasure sitting on the back deck of his home watching deer and other wildlife passing through. He also enjoyed taking photos.

Frank is survived by his wife of 63 years, Eva; four children, Brenda (Bill) Norris, Jon Wilson, Deborah (Rick) Wilson-Sompel and Steven Wilson; five grandchildren, Angie Caton, Cory Pertile, Chad Pertile, Scott Sompel and Kevin (Yana) Sompel; three great-grandchildren, Kelly Ward, Ben Ward and Kylah Pertile; and a sister, Ann Nix. He will be missed by numerous nieces, nephews, his brothers- and sisters-in-law and friends.

A memorial service in celebration of Frank's life will be held on Monday, Sept. 8, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Trinity Lutheran Church, 5104 E. Margaret St., in Ironwood, with the Rev. David Jacob officiating.

A committal service and interment will follow at Sunset Acres Cemetery in Ironwood Township, where full military rites will be accorded by the Ironwood American Legion Post 5 Honor Guard assisted by the U.S. Air Force Funeral Honors Team.

Luncheon will be served in the church fellowship hall immediately upon return from the cemetery.
