Florine M. "Flo" Jakkola, 86, of 112 Lepisto St., Wakefield, died Monday morning, Dec. 26, 2011, at Aspirus Grand View Hospital in Ironwood, surrounded by her loved ones.
She was born on Sept. 10, 1925, in Wakefield, the daughter of John and Mary (Hill) Makela. Flo graduated from Wakefield High School in 1943.
Following graduation and during World War II, she was proud of her employment at the ammunition plant in Baraboo, Wis.
Flo was a longtime member of the Wakefield Historical Society, had a special association with the Wakefield American Legion Geroux Post 11, and was a 50-year member to the Ladies Auxiliary to the Wakefield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9084.
She was a people person and had a great sense of humor. Her hobbies included playing the guitar and singing, going to rummage sales, making crafts, personalizing greeting cards, and dressing up family and friends for any occasion.
For more than 30 years, Flo was employed by Indianhead Mountain Resort.
Left to cherish her memory is a daughter-in-law, Carol Kalla-Jakkola, Wakefield; a brother, Carl (Eileen) Makela, Wakefield; a sister, Dorothy (Arne) Mattson, Wakefield; several nieces and nephews, including special nephew, Tim (Lori) Makela; other loving relatives; and host of friends, including special friend, Gail Thompson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Sheldon Reed, on Aug 20, 2001; three brothers, John, Reino and Eric; and three sisters, Bertha, Toini and Taimi.
A private family funeral service will be held.
Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery.
