Fern A. Dutemple's Obituary
LOS ANGELES, Calif. – Fern A. Dutemple, 91, of Los Angeles, passed away early Wednesday morning, July 5, 2017, at Serrano South Convalescent Hospital in Los Angeles.
Fern was born on March 22, 1926, in Wakefield, Mich., a daughter of Victor and Mary Lydia (Keskey) Lepisto. She attended Wakefield High School and graduated in 1943.
Fern continued her education and graduated from the University of Michigan with a degree in teaching in 1947.
She was a very accomplished musician and played the piano for many events in high school and college, and during her teaching career and at numerous family gatherings.
During World War II, Fern accompanied a group of young ladies from Wakefield High School who sang many popular songs of that era.
Fern lived in Brazil with her family for about 20 years, learned to speak Portuguese, taught at the American School for a few years, and accompanied and directed a school musical group.
She always looked forward to returning home to Wakefield.
Fern later moved to California, where she enjoyed being with family members. She played the piano for many family sing-a-longs. Fern never lost her musical talent and was always able to play any song that was requested. One of her favorite popular songs was "Que Sera, Sera."
She will be long remembered and missed by her friends and family.
Fern is survived by a son, Richard Dutemple, Itanhandu, Minas Gerais, Brazil; a granddaughter, Michelle Dutemple, Houston, Texas; a sister, June Anderson, Saginaw, Mich.; and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; two sons, Clifford and Kirke; two sisters, Mildred and Ruth; and five brothers, Victor, Carl, Walter, Paul and Morris.
In accordance with Fern's wishes, cremation will take place.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at All Saints Lutheran Church, 1202 Putnam St., in Wakefield.
A committal service and inurnment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery, Wakefield.
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Jerald Rocco, owner and manager of Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc., in Wakefield. Condolences may be expressed online at lakesidememorialchapel.com.
