Obituary

IRONWOOD, Mich. – Eunice L. Johnson, 85, a longtime resident of Bessemer, died peacefully Saturday, Nov. 3, 2012, at Aspirus Grand View Hospital in Ironwood, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on Sept. 8, 1927, in Bessemer Township, the daughter of John W. and Elsie E. (Johnson) Berg. Eunice was a 1945 graduate of Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood.

On Feb. 23, 1946, she was united in marriage to Leslie G. Johnson at Sharon Lutheran Church in Bessemer.

Eunice was an active member of Sharon Lutheran Church and an amateur radio operator (WA8DWM).

She loved socializing and going to senior meals at Mill Street in Bessemer, watching the birds, crocheting, knitting, reading and snowmobiling with her husband.

Eunice is survived by a son, David (Ruth), Wakefield; three daughters, Janet (Randy) Kusch, Muskego, Wis., Gail (Ed) Samson, Ironwood, and Susan (Dan) Jurakovich, Bessemer; her daughter-in-law, Sandy Johnson, Fenton; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; five brothers, Roger (Gladys) Berg, San Jacinto, Calif., Donald (Eloise) Berg, Wheeling, Ill., Robert (Margaret) Berg and Dale (Maureen) Berg, both of Bessemer, and Larry (Linda) Berg, Matthews, N.C.; a sister, Denice (Robert) Synkelma-Turney, Florence, Ore.; her sister-in-law, Catherine Berg, Eagle River, Wis.; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; other relatives; and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Leslie, on April 13, 2003; a son, Keith C., on Oct. 9, 2012; a grandson, Tim, on Oct. 10, 2006; and a brother, Archie Berg, on Feb. 1, 2007.


Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 9 a.m., at Sharon Lutheran Church in Bessemer, with the Rev. Gerald L. Anderson officiating, and the Rev. Ted Trudgeon, pastor of the United Methodist Church in Wakefield, in attendance.

Committal services and burial will take place in Hillcrest Cemetery, Bessemer.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandsons.

A reception will be held in the Kastman Hall of Sharon Lutheran Church following the cemetery service.
