WINTHROP HARBOR, Ill. – Ellen Marie Davidson, 98, of Winthrop Harbor, formerly a longtime resident of Wakefield, Mich., passed away peacefully at home Saturday, Nov. 6, 2010.
Ellen was born on Nov. 20, 1911, in Calumet, Mich., to Oscar and Sophia Maki.
She was a member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church. Throughout her life, it was faith and family she valued most, inspiring a deep love for religion and education.
Among her many interests, her favorites were traveling, reading, painting ceramics and working crossword puzzles.
Ellen was a member of the Gold Star Mothers, proud of the 47 combined years of military service given by her six sons.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend, who will be dearly missed by all who knew her.
Ellen is survived by two sisters, Elsie Bennett and Bernice Chapman; five children, Eunice Holder, Marenisco, Mich., Grant (Connie), Louisville, Ky., Allan, Laurium, Mich., Jerry, Alma, Mich., and Judy (Reino) Hill, Winthrop Harbor; 28 grandchildren; 52 great-grandchildren; and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents, Ellen was preceded in death by five brothers, Oscar, Edwin, William, Robert and Rudy Maki; four sisters, Jean Cline, Ruth Johnson, Agnes Rouse and Lillian Rouse; three sons, Bruce, Thomas and Brian; and three grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, Nov. 9, from 10 to 11 a.m., at Lakeside Memorial Chapel in Wakefield, where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., with Paul Isaacson officiating.
Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery.
Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc., Wakefield, is assisting the family with arrangements.
