BESSEMER, Mich. - Diana Odetta (nee Pergande) Hyvonen, 75, of Bessemer, passed away on Friday, Feb. 21, 2025, at Aspirus St. Luke's Hospital in Duluth, Minnesota, following a brief illness.
She was born on Feb. 25, 1949, in Sparta, Wisconsin, to the late Vernon L. and Loretha M. "Rita" (Prescott) Pergande.
Diane married Steven D. Hyvonen on Aug. 31, 1970. They raised three children, Kelly (Jennifer) Hyvonen, Kory (Tiffany) Hyvonen and Jill (Brad) Olsen. She was "Nana" to Zackery (Kim) and Brandon (Kailee) Olsen, Gabe and Graham Hyvonen, Isaiah and Lexi Hyvonen, and two great-grandchildren, Cole and Mason Olsen.
Diane graduated from Oak Creek High School in 1967. After high school, she received her radiology technician certification and later earned her bachelor of science in Radiologic Technology from Marion College in 1995. She worked at several hospitals and clinics throughout her career.
Diane loved various crafts, including quilting, crocheting, knitting and needlepoint. She also enjoyed reading, gardening and baking. Diane loved spending time with her family, being a grandma and great-grandma and cheering on the Green Bay Packers.
Besides her husband, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Diane is survived by a brother, Gary (Bonnie) Pergande; a sister, Vicky (Ken) Bontempo; two brothers-in-law, John (Krisha) Hyvonen and Jeff (Cathy) Hyvonen; two sisters-in-law, Judy Kubicek and Kathy Hyvonen; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her father-in-law and mother-in-law, Howard and Elma Hyvonen; a brother, Dale Pergande; and two brothers-in-law, Howard Hyvonen and Tom Kubicek.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, March 2, at 2 p.m., preceded by visitation at 1 p.m., at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, E8223 Sanders Road, in Bessemer, with the Rev. Stephen Pope officiating.
The family would like to thank the staff at Villa Maria Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hurley, Wisconsin, for caring for Diane for the past nine months. We would also like to thank Jerald Rocco at Lakeside Memorial Chapel Inc., in Wakefield, for assisting the family through this difficult time.
