WAUSAU, Wis. – Darrell Keith Kahila, 57, a lifelong resident of Wakefield, Mich., died unexpectedly Tuesday, April 3, 2012, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital in Wausau, surrounded by his loving family.
Darrell was born on Nov. 28, 1954, in Wakefield, the son of Oliver Arvo and Genevieve Florence (Morrison) Kahila. He graduated from Wakefield High School in 1972.
On June 7, 1975, Darrell married Doreen M. Verthein at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Ramsay, Mich.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding his motorcycle.
Darrell is survived by three children, Shannon (Eric) Lutz, Nicole (Cody) Nelson and Camoth (Jessica) Kahila, all of Wakefield; a granddaughter, Kayla Lutz; seven sisters, Charlene Vargovich and Paula (Dan) Olson, both of Ironwood, Mich., Alice Kahila, Denise (Dale) Marten, Sheila Kahila and Sandra Kahila, all of Wakefield, and Roxanne (Ernie) Cummings, Bergland, Mich.; a special friend, Mary Ozzello, Wakefield; numerous nieces and nephews; and other loving relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife, Doreen, on Jan. 18, 2003.
The family will greet relatives and friends on Monday, April 9, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., at All Saints Lutheran Church, 1202 Putnam Blvd., Wakefield, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Bill Jacobson officiating.
A luncheon will be served in the church fellowship hall following the service.
Burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery at a later date.
