'Corky' Johnson

RAMSAY, Mich. – Cordelia E. "Corky" Johnson, 84, a lifelong resident of Ramsay, passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon, April 10, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born on Oct. 12, 1929, in Bessemer Township, the daughter of Richard John and Grace (Barron) Grenfell. Corky attended Ramsay School.
On Oct. 17, 1953, she married Lawrence Johnson in Bessemer.
Corky was a member of the Wakefield United Methodist Church.
She was employed by the Gogebic Medical Care Facility for nearly 26 years and retired on Jan. 1, 1990.
Corky is survived by four sisters, Evelyn Kahila, Ramsay, Carol (Roger) Russell, Humboldt, Iowa, Mary Lou Brozzo, Aurora, Minn., and Jeanette (Don) DeWitt, Fort Myers, Fla.; three brothers, Richard Jack (Dorothy) Grenfell, Seattle, Wash., Jerry Grenfell, Ramsay, and Robert (Toni) Grenfell, Marianna, Fla.; her sister-in-law, Margaret Grenfell, Massapequa, N.Y.; her brother-in-law, Donald Wiedemeier, Pound, Wis.; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lawrence, in 1988; four sisters, Betty Grace Grenfell, in infancy, Ethel Grenfell, Gloria Wiedemeier and Jane Niemi; two brothers, Earl Grenfell and Tom Grenfell; and three brothers-in-law, Kauno "Toby" Kahila, Arvo Niemi and Earl Brozzo.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 6, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Lakeside Memorial Chapel in Wakefield. The Rev. Ted Trudgeon, pastor of the Wakefield United Methodist Church, will officiate.
Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery, Bessemer.
Lunch will be served at the Wakefield Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9084 immediately upon return from the cemetery.
