Conrad 'Connie' Nelson

BESSEMER, Mich. – On Thursday, May 9, 2019, Conrad "Connie" Nelson, loving husband and father, passed away at the age of 91.

Conrad was born on March 2, 1928, in Bessemer, a son of Louis and Monica (Holup) Nelson.

He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, stationed in Alaska and was honorably discharged in 1948.

On Aug. 24, 1961, Conrad was united in marriage to Marie Niemi.

He worked at the Sunday Lake and White Pine mines.

Conrad was a dedicated member of the Bessemer American Legion Post 27. He was very active in his church and strong in his faith of the Lord.

Conrad enjoyed boating on the big lake and was an avid collector of rocks, minerals and agates. Conrad was a grower of grapes and blueberries and took great pleasure picking them each year for wine and jelly. He spent much of his elder years trying to get a pear tree to bear fruit, but with little luck.

Conrad is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Marie; a son, David (Carrie) Nelson; a daughter, Annette (Mark) Fabbri; four grandchildren, Vincent Fabbri, Daniel (Ashley) Nelson, Chelsea (Anthony) Impellzzeri and Gerred (Shanice) Fabbri; three great-grandchildren, Finn, Lily and Ellie; a sister, Corrine Lake; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Milton Nelson.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, May 16, at 11 a.m., preceded by visitation at 10 a.m., at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, E8223 Sanders Road, in Bessemer, with the Rev. Timothy J. Steckling officiating.

A committal service and interment will take place at Hillcrest Cemetery, Bessemer, with a military graveside service under the auspices of Bessemer American Legion Post 27 and Bessemer Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3673 Honor Guard.
