MARQUETTE, Mich. – Clifford C. Mattila Sr., 76, of Wakefield, died peacefully Monday, Jan. 21, 2013, at Marquette General Hospital in Marquette.
He was born on April 30, 1936, in Wakefield, the son of Ernest A. and Julia D. (Willing) Mattila. He graduated from Wakefield High School in 1955.
After high school, Clifford served in the U.S. Air Force for more than three years as an automotive repairman. He was honorably discharged on Oct. 27, 1958.
Clifford was employed by and retired from White Pine Copper Co., after 35 years of service.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing at his Four Finns Camp, but most of all, he loved his wife and family.
Clifford is survived by his beloved wife, Carole; seven children, Debra (John) Granato, Wakefield, Jeff (Karen) Begalle, Hurley, Wis., Clifford Mattila Jr., Wakefield, Rebecca (Joseph) Buchko, Bessemer, and Keith (Linda) Mattila, Theodore Mattila and Michael Mattila (Lynn), all of Wakefield; 15 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Brian (Susan), Grand Rapids; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Jerry; and a sister, Laura, in infancy.
There will be no visitation or funeral service.
